84th Annual Academy Awards Round Up

Oscars 2012

Well it was all about “The Artist” in a room full of artists at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.., That’s right, a silent, black and white foreign film cleaned up with five Oscar wins.

Even as we spotted Jean Dujardin leaving his hotel for the awards, we expected he would walk away with The Best Actor trophy.

And “The Artist”’s Michel Hazanavicius will be returning to France as 2012’s Best Director.

But just because these newcomers swept the competition, they weren’t the only fresh faces.

Like Christopher Plummer… The 82-year-old took home his Best Supporting Actor statue for “The Beginners.”

As he said, he’s only two years younger than Oscar himself.

And speaking of statues, Meryl Streep looked like the golden goddess of cinema she is, as she won her third Academy Award for her performance in “The Iron Lady.”

Octavia Spencer even got a little “Help” from the academy with her Best Supporting actress win.

The other big winner for the night was “Hugo” with five different wins, but sorry Martin Scorsese, they were all technical awards for the movie’s cinematography, sound editing and art direction.

We’re just glad Sacha Baron Cohen didn’t get to be a Dictator on stage, after being escorted off the Red Carpet for showing up like this…  Oh, and spilling Kim Jung II’s fake “ashes” all over the carpet…

No, the 84th Annual Academy awards made it clear what type of Artist they want.
