Lionel Richie has admitted that he wasn’t a great parent, but said that he is a “genius” as a grandfather to daughter Nicole Richie’s two children.

The 60-year-old singer-songwriter made the surprising admission on a US radio breakfast show.

     “[I'm] much better than I was doing as a parent. I’m a genius now.
    “That first time around as a parent will scare you to death because… they give you the kid without a manual.
    “I was slightly busy [with my career] at the time.
    “This time around, now Nicole comes to me and she says, ‘Dad, how do I do this?’ I am now the genius.”
