The Grammy Award nominations were announced in an hour-long special concert show on US TV last night.
Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, the Foo Fighters, B.B. King, John Mayer and Tayler Swift performed songs from the Grammy Hall of Fame at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
It was Mariah who opened the show with the Phil Spector produced seasonal hit "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," in knee-high white boots.
Next-up Celine Dion sang Janis Ian's "At Seventeen" choosing to sit on a stool for one of the more restrained performances of the night.
The Foo Fighters rocked out with a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain", Swift offered a rendition of the Brenda Lee 60s country ditty "I'm Sorry", while Aguilera showed off her vocal talents with a cover of the George Gershwin penned classic, "I Love You Porgy", made famous by Nina Simone. However, it was John Mayer who stole the show in a duet/jamming session with blues legend B.B. King as they the pair played along to Louis Jordan's "Let the Good Times Roll."
As for the nominations themselves, New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne and Coldplay led the way, featuring eight and seven nods respectively.
Chris Martin and his band featured in the three main categories including record, album and song of the year from their release "Viva La Vida".
British singer Adele, 20, also bagged three nominations, for best new artist, as well as record and song nominations for "Chasing Pavements," taken from her album "19."
The winners will be announced on 8 February at in a ceremony at the Staples Center.

Christina Aguilera is reported to be kicking off the AMAs with a blockbuster medley of her greatest hits, combining "Genie in a Bottle" with "Fighter", "Beautiful," "Keeps Getting Better" and "Dirrty." Dick Clark Productions President Orly Adelson said that "We are very excited to have Christina Aguilera perform at this year's show," but all I care about is what the heck she'll end up wearing. You know it's going to be good or um, scary. Maybe both.

Christina Aguilera is usually the first female to out her cleavage for a celebrity event, but shockingly, the singer actually managed to put her bouncing boys away last night for a posh dinner in Beverly Hills.
Martha Stewart, Emmy Rossum, Carla Gugino and Rose McGowan also attended the event at the Wallis Annenberg Center held in honor of photographer Matthew Rolston.

Christina Aguilera blew us away in her so-not-like-her look involving
jeans, a crew neck sweatshirt, and flats while shopping with husband
Jordan Bratman. Just like Jessica Alba, who was seen
looking mumsie in New York
recently, Christina's taking her motherhood in stride and even breaking
free from her "usual" dress habits. I don't think we'll
be hearing any complaining.
In other Aguilera-related news, she was seen with Jordan yesterday, where they both voted in Beverly Hills. Her newest album,
Keeps Getting Better- A Decade of Hits,
will be released on November 11th as well! Since she said that she is "always
inspired by new things because I get bored," we can be pretty sure that
she'll continue to surprise us.

Christina Aguilera managed to channel her unique sense of dress in an all-black ensemble this time in New York: shiny leggings, a giant skull scarf, bright pink lipstick, and a glossy puffer jacket were orders of the day. Jordan Bratman was seen wandering after her as they left their NYC hotel.
Christina's definitely got to be turning more heads now that people have seen her new music vid "Keeps Gettin' Better," which was released on Monday. Christina recently said that she enjoyed making the new release and that "Being an artist who likes to play around with different looks, it was
a lot of fun to portray various characters within the same shoot."
I'd love it if she did that more in real life and lost the lippie. Here's to hoping.

Christina Aguilera is still making a "splash" in London! Wearing a
floppy print hat and very tight jeans, she slid into her car after a
night after a night at
London nightclub Whisky Mist. Paris
Hilton was also spotted nearby with a weirdly satisfied expression on
her face. I guess that Christina and Paris love the UK! Join the club.
Christina opened up about wanting more children at the Africa Rising Benefit this week, saying "Absolutely, we'll definitely have more kids," although she said that they're going to "play it by ear."
