In the very same week that Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN announced it would be canceling Rosie O’Donnell’s daytime talk show “The Rosie Show,” the network is reportedly in talks to hire Maria Shriver.
The former first lady of California and Oprah are longtime pals, and Oprah has apparently been keen to work with her bud for a while.
Maria comes from a news background, a career she gave up once her estranged husband Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for political office, and word is that she would like to get back to work.
However, reports indicate that there is some hesitation for Maria, who has also been offered book deals and projects from other networks. At the moment she still has two sons at home and would apparently like to stay in Los Angeles.
Oprah’s team has reportedly offered Maria anything from her own show, to special news-style human interest segments.
With network ratings still struggling, OWN needs a change-up to boost ratings come fall, and Oprah feels that Maria could really relate to her viewers.
Well if anyone can make magic happen, we’re sure Oprah can!
