LA Police officials have confirmed that singer Whitney Houston has died.

In a statement to reporters Lieutenant Mark Rosen said: “I can confirm Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3.55pm at the Beverly Hills Hotel. We received a call at 3:43 p.m. from hotel security and Beverly Hills Fire and police responded minutes later. We attempted to resuscitate her, to no avail.”

The death is now under investigation but police said it is not yet clear whether drugs or foul play were involved.
