And the Oscar race is on!! After weeks of eager speculation, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced 9 contenders for Best Picture of the Year. It’s no surprise that The Descendants, a critical darling starring George Clooney was given one of the coveted top spots. Also roaring into a top spot, Silent film The Artist scored an Oscar nod. Two Brad Pitt movies received nominations: Moneyball, and The Tree of Life Woody Allen’s latest picture, the magical film Midnight in Paris is in the race, alongside Hugo and Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse In addition to receiving multiple nominations in the acting category, The Help is now a contender for Best Picture. And with some surprise and excitement coming from the live audience at the Academy, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was the ninth film nominated for Best Picture.

George Clooney celebrates his 49th birthday while shooting scenes for his new movie on a sun drenched beach. The Hollywood star had to work while on location in Hawaii, where he is filming ‘The Descendants’.
