Venus Goes To 'EleVen'
3:26 Monday, December 17, 2007

Lost in the glorious influx of T&A on Friday (thanks Jesus!) were these pictures of tennis star and three-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams graduating from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida with a degree in fashion.
I'm all for education and seeing professional athletes go back and get their degrees is inspiring but why does Venus need a degree in fashion? I know she's starting her own fashion line (called 'EleVen') but seriously, is some fashion house or the store her clothes are going be hanging on a rack in really going to be swayed by the fact that she has a degree? Since when does education or experience trump celebrity and fame?
And who goes to fashion school in Florida of all places? Was 'Intro To Fashion' how to make shirts without sleeves? Was 'History of Fashion' an in depth look at air brushed clothing? Did her 'Business of Fashion' class teach her that sequins = big bucks?
I think the only place worse than Florida to study fashion is Philadelphia.

More pics after the jump!
Congratulations Venus! On the new clothing line and your degree.
I look forward to seeing you and Serena kick some ass next month at the Australian Open.
Venus lives and trains in Florida. Why would she uproute her life to go to school in New York or someplace when the degree is secondary for her career? I don't know anything about her studies but I would assume that along with the fashion courses, business is also part of the curriculum. I'm sure she would want to know more about the business side of a fashion line. I think it's mean and unnecessary to trash Venus education.
"I think the only place worse than Florida to study fashion is Philadelphia."
You think right, Chris.
Killadelphia's homicide rate so far for 2007 is 315.
On the mean streets of the City of Death, a former drug dealer was recently quoted, “They just shoot at anything and everybody, without even looking.†:-(
Next stop: Project Runway after a smooch call to Tim Gunn. ;)
I sure do give her credit for having another career plan other than tennis. Some/most Hollyweird acktresses should take heed.
Project Runway/Tim Gunn ?
Michael, I'm assuming you watch that show because of Heidi, right? ;-)
"Auf Wiedersehen" :-)
So there, Sid Rosenberg! :-(
Man ....low blow post!!
We go from hatin on Brit for being a bad mom, to hatin on Venus because she got a degree??
...I am completely lost??
....two paragraphes crackin jokes on her, ....for going to SCHOOL!!??
Kris makes a valid point.
Venus needs the degree for credibility and for "networking." Celebrity and fame can crash and burn in an instant.
On the other hand, Chris is right in that often a degree in fashion results in a job...as a waitress. ;-)
