Diesel highlights global warming issues in new ad campaign.
4:11 Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Clothing brand 'Diesel' has produced a series of stunning ads that promote the plight on climate change. The ads show cities that have been transformed by rising temperatures and sea levels and all are stamped 'Global Warming Ready'. Diesel is not the first brand to show their support for this particular cause. Virgin tycoon Richard Branson announced on the 9th Feb, a $25 million prize for the first person to come up with a way of scrubbing greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere in the battle to beat global warming.
What do you think of this campaign? Insenstive or strong in it's message?
Diesel is in partnership with Stop Global Warming - this is their statement.
"Over the years, Diesel's ad campaigns have touched on several global issues in a signature over-the-top, irreverent, often surreal way. 2007 opens with a campaign that highlights the risks awaiting our planet due to global warming. We are only a fashion company and do not think that - with just one campaign - we can save the world, but if our unconventional tone of voice and the reputation of our brand can grab and hold people's attention a little longer than a news feature can, make them think twice about the consequence of all our actions and realize our individual responsibility, then something at least will have been accomplished"
LOL
Stupid. Just plain stupid.
Fucking scare tactics are comical. 99% of people haven't even seen the polar ice caps or been to Antarctica but they'll bitch and cry about how it's all disappearing. Well I've been and no...that shit ain't going anywhere.
You're being lied to. It's a sales pitch.
The ads make a mockery of global warming. The attitude conveyed is why be concerned, all will continue on as it is now. You will live in bliss in beautiful clothes in youthful full health.
I would strongly suggest reading what has been published in top tier, peer reviewed science journals, and even the recent EPA report, but I doubt your readership can locate these pub's, much less comprehend them.
I have to agree with anon, the second comment. The ads are tasteless and leave little understanding of the real threats to less minded people.
It's really quite pathetic (but expected) that a company is trying to make money off of the damage we humans created. Fix it. Don't sell it.
Ads such as these are more reasons to have disgust in our race. A pity.
I pity our grandchildren's grandchildren's future. A real shame.
As "old" as this sounds, "Shame on Diesel."
I agree with #2 and 3. They are mocking global warming. Assholes. It is not funny. People should boycott them.
I like the look of these ads, but don't see what they have to do with GW.
And, it costs a LOT in the carbon footprint to make and sell these ads.
They're as hypocritical as Al (SUV driving, private first class plane flying daily, ownership of several luxury condos) Gore.
Hyprocrite much?
Anyways, it's just a marketing campaign, it means zilch to them.
Totally agree with you Annie!!
Just like these stupid people who pledge only to take one flight a year!!!! What do they think they are going to do ....... walk home?!?!?!
