The unfortunate crime rate in New Orleans is limited to well known areas that inhabit drug users/dealers. You can come to New Orleans and be safe so long as you don't go to specific high crime/low tourist areas. Give us a break. We're trying our best with the limited resources that have trickled down to the city. Billions! I think NOT.

New Orleans is like no other city in the world. My husband and I have been coming here for almost thirty years, beginning with our honeymoon, and now we live here. The first comment was exactly right. Don't be foolish and go to areas where drugs are being used or dealt. That's true of any city. People who have never been here or who have not returned since the storm do not understand the magnitude of the damage that occurred, and how much work it will require to restore our historic and truly unique city. Get an education. Come down here and see for yourselves.
