I kid, I kid...Nascar is no longer just a Southern Good Ol' Boy past time and has become one of the most watched events (I say 'event' as I don't really know if it's a sport) in the country (especially out here in the 909/951). I have yet to except Nascar into my life as I don't fully understand the appeal of it. Maybe it's because I'm from New York, had running water, used electricity instead of 'lectricity, and didn't spend my youth barefoot blowing into a jug and strumming a banjo on my front porch. So enjoy these candid shots of Nascar drivers preparing for the big race this weekend at the Homestead Miami Speedway and please, explain this Nascar to me and lets break down those stereotypes. I am a very well educated woman who is fully employed with a University and I love NASCAR. I hated it as a kid, but went to one race a little over a year ago and am hooked. It's all about the speed and the crashes and of course the hot drivers.Go to a race....you'll be hooked. I promise it's not some redneck drunk fest (although you will see some interesting people). I was suprised at my first race to see multi million dollar travel homes and not the POS trailers I expected to see.

ps....The race is at Martinsville this weekend not Homestead-Miami. :)

I got in back in the day before Dale Earnhardt died and all the yuppies started watching the sport. As a female, there's nothing hotter than watching a man drive fast, pushing the slower cars out of the way to win the race. I grew up going to racetracks, both NASCAR and local. Now, its just boring. I can't stand the new fans. They know NOTHING about the sport, and they only watch it for the crashes. It angers me that NASCAR has gotten so big because it will never return to the way it was. I haven't watched a race in two years because I'm tired of all the new "fans."

Who gives a fuck.?

Of all the drivers pictured, only two are from the "south" Arkansas and Florida. The rest are from Missouri, Wisconsin, Washington, 2 from Indiana, 2 from California, 2 from Las Vegas, and one is from another country. NASCAR is a definitely a sport. It takes incredible endurance to race at the current level racing has evolved to. I have been a fan for years, since way before Big E died. I do not think it has gotten worse. Racing is much more competitive. Used to be that there might only be a few cars on the lead lap and the rest were no competition. That is very rare today. If you really are a racing fan you realize it’s all about strategy, endurance and driving ability. Wrecks may be interesting but they do not make a race.

How about getting a dickshonerry asshole... it's "I have yet to "accept" NASCAR into my life"... dumbass.

I am a southern woman and would never watch NASCAR. Whether you like it or not has nothing to do with being southern. As far as how people in the south grow up, it seems pretty attractive from the numbers of northerners moving down here every day. Please keep writing ignorant garbage like this to perpetuate the stereotype! We southerners like our sunshine, clean air and affordable housing. Thanks.

since when is Missouri not part of 'the south?' its below the Mason-Dixon line ain't it?

I am from PA. I take offence to your stupid comments. There is not a race in Homestead this weekend. There are in Homestead this week for testing. There are in Martensville for the race this weekend. Open your eyes and go to a race. You WILL be hooked.

All you have to do is look at Kasey Kahne and you would get it!!!

Yeah,right...I agree with comment above about getting yourself a dictionary YOU MORON...Sounds like you had "everything in New York " alright, EXCEPT (used properly here) an education...Stay away from NASCAR,you little idiot, and go to Fashion shows which sounds like more your speed !!

I love NASCAR!Gimme my weekly dose of ESad on Sunday's (or sometimes Saturday night) and I'm happy for the rest of the week!AND - I'm from the South.AND - I hated NASCAR until my friends talked me into going to a race. Then I was absolutely hooked!

I am from New York City, and i am a russian woman, and i LOVE LOVE LOVE NASCAR. I do not get off my couch during the race in fear of missing something. Also, please never ever again post a picture of the two evil spawn boys (Kurt & Kyle Busch). I'd rather see a picture of freaking Clint Boywer. Although if you want to attract a lot of traffic to your site, you might want to use the following drivers: Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhardt Jr (My personal favorite), Martin Truex Jr, Elliot Sadler, Tony Stewart, Casey Mears, Denny Hamlin, etc...
