Congrats on erecting a statue of a fictional character. What's next? Is Albuquerque, New Mexico going to erect a statue of Bugs Bunny for making all those 'wrong toins?' To put this in perspective for all of you outside the US or outside of Philly, Philadelphia is home to Independence Hall, where The Declaration of Independence and US Constitution were signed. The World's Fair was held here in 1876 and Philadelphia is home to Edgar Allan Poe, Betsy Ross, the Liberty Bell, the Rodin Museum, the Franklin Institute, which contains the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, and now, fictional character, Rocky 'The Italian Stallion' Balboa. Actually that statue has been in Philadelphia for years, since the 80's I think, when Rocky 3 was filmed. It was in front of the Art Museum for a while (where the steps from the movie are) and also by the sports arenas.Still pretty dumb, but there's a large percentage of Philly residents who really love Rocky.

they took it down and now it is back. kind hilarious that it is on the steps of the art museum. says a lot about the people of philly and their culture. cheese steaks, mullets, booing santa, track suits, gold chains, pretending to be from NY, and elevating Rocky to the same status as our forefathers

The statue is only up for the filming of "Rocky Balboa." It will be removed when the filming is complete.

i hate philly and their philly phanatic or fanatic or creepy thing at the phillies game. i hate how they are proud of rocky. i hate that they act like you can't get a good cheese steak outside of philly. i hate the fact they try so hard pretending to be from NY that come off as wannabee Jersey trash. philly is lame.

I live in Philadelphia and I hate the Philadelphia Art Museum. It's not even finished. Take a look at all the 7 unfinished friezes above the columns of the Philadelphia Art Museum. They are empty just as the minds of the art museum board members who voted against the statue of Rocky. One board member actually called the statue non-art, yet defication on a painting is art.

hey whoa, Pilly's not so bad. And it's great to see all the people - runners to little kids with their parents - take the art museum steps a la Rocky and jump up and down at the top. No one thinks he's a forefather, just a fictional hero who makes you feel good!
